KISELJAK, Bosnia and Herzegovina: At least 14 people have died due to severe flooding in Bosnia, following heavy rains that caused rivers to overflow and triggered devastating landslides.

The hardest-hit areas include the region around Jablanica, about 70 kilometers southwest of Sarajevo. Authorities expect the death toll to rise as rescue operations continue, with many people still missing.

Rescue efforts have been hampered by power outages and blocked roads, leaving entire communities cut off. Civil protection teams and the military are working to assist those stranded, using helicopters to evacuate people from hard-to-reach areas. This disaster follows a summer of extreme weather in the Balkans, with scientists attributing increased rainfall intensity to climate change. The region is still grappling with its infrastructure and rescue capabilities as the floodwaters recede.
