ABUJA, Nigeria: In Abuja, Nigeria, an outlawed Shiite group, the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), launched a deadly attack on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of at least two law enforcement officers.

The attack took place at a police checkpoint, where the assailants used machetes, knives, and improvised explosive devices, leaving three other officers unconscious and setting ablaze three police patrol vehicles.

The IMN, inspired by Iran’s Islamic Revolution, has a long history of conflict with Nigeria’s secular government and was officially banned in 2019.

Despite this, the group continues to maintain strong ties with Tehran. The police have made several arrests following the attack, and Abuja’s police commissioner has vowed to bring those responsible to justice, asserting that the situation is now under control.
