ISLAMABAD: A deadlock continues to persist between the government and opposition in Pakistan, as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) demands a guarantee in backdoor dialogue negotiations, according to well-placed sources.
The PML-N is reportedly seeking assurance that Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, will accept any agreement made between the coalition government and opposition political parties.
The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has also stepped in to help break the deadlock. Negotiations will only be held between the government and the opposition once both sides have established trust in each other, which can only happen after the PML-N’s demand for a guarantee is met.
On Monday, former President and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to hold negotiations with the opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and to not set any conditions before the talks begin.
He stressed that the nation could not afford any odd situation and that it was crucial for both parties to come to an agreement.
Talks between government and opposition
The deadlock between the government and the opposition has been ongoing for some time now, with both parties accusing each other of political maneuvering and refusing to budge on their demands.
The current situation is causing concern among citizens, who fear that the lack of progress may lead to a political crisis.
With the PPP’s intervention, it remains to be seen whether the deadlock can be broken and an agreement can be reached between the government and the opposition.
The political situation is being closely monitored by the public, who are hoping for a resolution that will benefit the country as a whole.
