ISLAMABAD: Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon has initiated a significant crackdown on professional beggars, with the Magistrate Secretariat leading the operation.
In a swift move, 28 beggars were apprehended from the F-6 and F-7 areas and subsequently transferred to the Kohsar police station, according to Dr. Abdullah Tabasum, who spoke to APP on Friday.
He emphasized, “This decisive action sends a clear message that the city will not tolerate professional panhandling. The operation, overseen by Assistant Commissioners and Magistrates, is in progress and aims to reduce beggars’ presence on the streets significantly.”
While the adult beggars were taken into custody, minor children were directed to the Edhi Center to ensure their safety and well-being. He concluded that this dual-pronged approach underscores the city’s commitment to addressing the issue of professional begging while safeguarding vulnerable children.
