Dar Holds Fruitful Meetings With Top WB, IMF Officials

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar held productive meetings with top officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (WB), the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Deutsche Bank and the JP Morgan Bank.

The finance minister held meetings with IMF and WB officials on the sidelines of the annual huddle of the two international lenders in Washington.

“Federal Minister for Finance & Revenue Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar met today in Washington, DC with Ms. Antoinette Sayeh, Deputy Managing Director, IMF,” said the press release Friday.

According to the press release, “The minister apprised her of the damages caused by the unprecedented floods in Pakistan. He shared the government’s vision for stabilizing the economy and carrying sustainable and resilient recovery.

Sayeh appreciated the government’s policies and assured of the IMF’s continued support to Pakistan. The finance minister in meeting with World Bank President David Malpass thanked the lender agency for its continued support in the socio-economic development of Pakistan.”

He also thanked the World Bank for assistance in rescue and relief operations in the aftermath of the unprecedented devastating floods. “WB President Malpass assured that the Bank would continue to work with Pakistan to overcome its socio-economic challenges due to the floods.

The finance minister in a separate meeting with WB Vice-President for South Asia Region Martin Raiser thanked him for visiting Pakistan to see the devastation caused by the recent floods. The visit helped in projecting the tremendous damages caused by the devastating floods. The WB vice-president assured that the Bank would continue to support Pakistan in overcoming its current economic challenges,” it said.

Dar also met IDB President Dr Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser and thanked the Bank for its continued engagement with Pakistan. “He appreciated that Pakistan and the Bank had remained trusted partners for decades. Al Jasser appreciated the measures being taken by Pakistan to stabilize the economy while providing relief to the flood victims,” said the press release.

In meeting with the leadership of Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan, the finance minister shed light on the government’s vision to stabilize the economy while providing relief to flood victims. “He assured that Pakistan was committed to completing the IMF’s programme.”

The Pakistan delegation also met with rating agencies and participated in several events. “The delegation also engaged at the Pakistan House with a diverse group of Pakistani professionals, including leading businessmen, tech entrepreneurs and others,” according to the press release.

The finance minister is leading Pakistan’s delegation at the IMF and the World Bank’s 2022 annual meetings being held in Washington.
