COPENHAGEN: Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen made a bold move by relying on a speech written by ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence (AI) system, to address lawmakers in the parliament on Wednesday. The speech emphasized the revolutionary aspects and risks associated with AI, despite warnings from tech leaders about potential errors AI could make.

During her address, Frederiksen surprised legislators by revealing that the speech was not her own but was generated by ChatGPT. She acknowledged that while the AI-generated content may not have been flawless in terms of the government’s work program details and punctuation, she found it both fascinating and terrifying to witness the capabilities of AI.

ChatGPT Gained Global Attention

ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, gained global attention for its ability to generate human-like prose, essays, poems, and conversation. This spotlight prompted tech giants to incorporate AI-powered systems in their products, leading to concerns raised by experts and academics about the rapid development of AI and its potential pitfalls.

These concerns include the dissemination of misinformation, biased algorithms leading to racism, false images, and automation that could replace human jobs in various industries. The EU and the US are expected to address these concerns during a high-level meeting in Lulea, Sweden, taking center stage in discussions.

In a statement published by the Centre for AI Safety, AI experts, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, warned that the risks posed by AI should be treated as a global priority, alongside other societal-scale risks like pandemics and nuclear war.

Frederiksen’s AI speech touched on key topics such as leading a broad government, fostering cooperation across parties, combating climate change, and striving for a fairer and more inclusive society. Although acknowledging challenges and resistance along the way, the speech emphasized the achievements made in the past parliamentary year.
