HERAT: The Daesh militant group has claimed responsibility for a gun attack on a Shiite mosque in western Afghanistan.
Earlier on Tuesday, a local officials said that a gunman attacked a mosque in western Afghanistan and killed at least 6 people. Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior spokesperson Abdul Mateen Qani had confirmed that on Monday around 9:00 pm “an unknown attacker shot at worshippers in a mosque” in Herat, Afghanistan.
In a statement via social media, the spokesperson said that around six people were killed and one was wounded in the attack. The state-run Bakhtar News Agency also stated that the incident took place in a district of Herat province. Similarly, citing local sources, Afghanistan TV channel Tolo reported the mosque belonged to Shiite community of Afghanistan.
