KARACHI: Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed his concerns on Sunday that Badin and Thatta have more threat from Arabian Sea Cyclone Biparjoy, saying the provincial government has to evacuate 8,000 to 9,000 families to safer locations.
The chief minister said that they had issued instructions to deputy commissioners of 3 districts. The government was also in close contact with the GOC Hyderabad and Corps Commander Karachi.
During a press conference in Karachi, Shah said that he could visit Badin and Thatta to monitor the ground situation.
He said that the government was taking precautionary steps in view of the impending Cyclone. Karachi administration has also been ordered to remove all billboards from the city in view of the looming cyclone.
Karachi Commissioner Iqbal Memon, In a letter written to all deputy commissioners (DCs), has ordered that all signboards on rooftops and buildings be immediately removed.
He also directed the district officials to take safety steps in their respective areas in view of the prediction for rainfall and strong winds in Cyclone Biparjoy.

Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ in the Arabian Sea intensified into an extremely severe storm on Sunday morning and was located about 760 kilometers away from the metropolitan city of Karachi, the Met Office said.
