WAH CANTT: Under the Punjab Tourism for Economic Growth Project, supported by the World Bank, UNESCO Islamabad is planning several events and cultural activities centred around numerous heritage sites in Punjab.
A cultural fair was organised under this project at the Gandhara Art Village Taxila, engaging local schools.
The event included a quiz contest on heritage education, a performance of Sufiana kalam, tableaus based on Pakistani folk songs and tales, and traditional games played in Punjab that portrayed Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage.
The local heritage sites’ student-made crafts, artwork, models, artwork, and various food stalls selling Punjabi traditional delicious food artwork and various food stalls selling Punjabi traditional delicious foods were presented in colourful stalls. The festive event was attended by teachers, students, parents, and community members.

Following the event, UNESCO held an advocacy conference with representatives from the relevant government departments, teachers, and school administrators to discuss how heritage education could be included in regular courses and promoted through various extracurricular activities in schools in Punjab.
