LAHORE: The Counter-Terrorism Department of Punjab has said that they have arrested twenty-one terrorists allegedly linked to banned organizations during its crackdown in different areas of the province, local media reported on Saturday.
Among those apprehended, there are nine commanders of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Officials said that explosive materials, grenades, and cash were recovered from the procession of the arrested terrorists.
CTD Arrests Twenty-one Terrorists Across Punjab
Authorities further said that the actions took place across various regions of Punjab, including Narowal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Muzaffargarh, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Layyah, Attock, and Sahiwal.
An investigation is currently being carried out against the terrorists after filing a case against them, local media reported.
According to CTD officials, this week saw 700 combing operations, during which 49 suspects were apprehended. It further said, during the combing operations, over 29,000 individuals were subjected to questioning.
The Punjab CTD conducted a covert operation toward the end of the previous month, which led to the capture of 10 alleged terrorists in several cities of the province.
Seven of the ten arrested terrorists were reportedly arrested for their alleged involvement in spreading hateful content on social media, according to a spokesperson of CTD.
During the operation, the law enforcement authorities also confiscated explosive materials, detonators, and weapons from the procession of the arrested terrorists.
