SYDNEY: Former Australian Test cricketer Michael Slater, aged 54, is likely to appear before the court on Tuesday (today). He was arrested by the police following his arrest on a series of charges. These charges, totaling 19, are related to alleged offenses committed on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast between December 5, 2023, and April 12, 2024.
Among the charges are several domestic violence offenses, including unlawful stalking or intimidation, breaking and entering a dwelling with intent at night, common assault, assault causing bodily harm, and choking or suffocation.
Additionally, Slater faces charges of breaching bail conditions and contravening a domestic violence order, with police confirming his arrest at a Sunshine Coast address on Friday, subsequent to alleged domestic violence incidents spanning several days.
Notably, Slater, renowned as a former opening batter and television commentator, made his Test debut during the 1993 Ashes tour, ultimately playing 74 Tests for Australia and accumulating 5312 runs at an average of 42.83, including 14 centuries. He also featured in 42 ODIs before retiring from cricket in 2004 to pursue a successful TV commentary career.
