PERTH: Shan Masood, Pakistan’s newly appointed captain, expressed determination to defy substantial odds and overcome 28 years of history by aiming for a victory against a formidable full-strength Australian team in the upcoming first cricket Test starting on Thursday (tomorrow).

Taking over from star batsman Babar Azam as captain following the 50-overs World Cup, Masood acknowledged Pakistan’s lack of Test match experience but emphasized their unwavering commitment to aiming for a victory at Perth Stadium.

“You have to be positive,” Masood, a fan of England’s ‘Bazball’ style of play, told reporters on Wednesday. “It’s picking your battles, it’s being sensible.

Captain Pat Cummins revealed the lineup for the upcoming series, marking a return to full strength for the Australian side. The sole change in the roster that clinched the Ashes in the fifth Test against England in August sees the return of off-spinner Nathan Lyon.

In an announcement that stirred anticipation among cricket enthusiasts, Cummins unveiled Travis Head as one of the vice captains, alongside the seasoned Steve Smith. Highlighting Head’s influential role in Australia’s World Cup victory, Cummins expressed admiration for the dynamic energy Head injects into the team.

He brings an infectious personality to the squad—a quality we all cherish, Cummins shared with reporters. His approach to the game is fearless and joyful. He embodies a spirit that keeps the team upbeat. While he may seem easy-going, his tactical prowess is exceptional. He’s the epitome of a robust leader in the making.

The revised squad comprises David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitch Marsh, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins (captain), Nathan Lyon, and Josh Hazlewood.

With the return of seasoned players and the infusion of Head’s vibrancy and strategic acumen, the Australian team seems poised for an exciting and promising series ahead.
