CHENNAI, India: India’s star batsman Shubman Gill could attend his first training session today after reportedly recovering from dengue ahead of India’s ICC Cricket World Cup match against Pakistan.

Having missed the initial two World Cup matches, Gill arrived in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, yet his participation in the highly anticipated match at the Narendra Modi Stadium remains uncertain.

Sources close to Team India revealed that Gill took an evening flight from Chennai and arrived in Ahmedabad the previous night. The plan is for him to step onto the field today, gauging how his body responds to physical activity. The approach is cautious, emphasizing a gradual process. The source told CricketNext, “There is going to be no rush, one step at a time.”

Gill did not accompany the Indian team to Delhi for their second match following their victorious encounter with Australia, leading to speculation of dengue, though it was never officially confirmed by the team management. The 24-year-old opener received treatment at a Chennai hospital but was discharged once his health improved.

A Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official stated on Wednesday that Gill was “absolutely fine.” However, there was uncertainty regarding his training the next day.

“Gill is doing absolutely fine and is set to leave Chennai for Ahmedabad today. It is still not clear whether Gill will have a light training session at Motera on Thursday. His recovery has been fine but can’t really be sure if he can play against Pakistan,” the BCCI official told Press Trust of India.
