BANGKOK: At least seven people were killed when a crane fell during construction work at a factory in Rayong province, located south of the capital Bangkok, Thailand police said on Friday.

Local police chief Chaipong Sangpongchai informed AFP that the incident occurred around 4:00 pm (0900 GMT) during the construction of a factory specializing in the production of metal chimneys. Reports indicate that all victims of the accident were factory workers.

Construction-related mishaps are unfortunately not uncommon in Thailand, with safety regulations often overlooked and operations conducted without proper permits. The country has witnessed similar incidents in the past, including a devastating explosion at a firework factory in Suphan Buri in January, which resulted in the loss of 23 lives. Another tragic incident occurred last July in Narathiwat, southern Thailand, where a factory blast claimed the lives of at least 10 individuals and left over 100 others injured.
