Crackdown Against Power Thieves: 194 Arrested with Recovery of Rs. 27.251m

ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government, during its ongoing country-wide crackdown against power stealing, has so far recovered 27.251 million rupees and arrested 194 electricity stealers.

As per the Electricity Anti-Theft Campaign Statistics (Progressive) released by the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) on Monday, about 8.737 million units of electricity theft costing 352.404 rupees has been detected across the country since the start of the drive on 7 September, with lodging of 1,529 first information reports (FIRs).

About 715 cases have been lodged against the power thieves by the Lahore Electric Supply Company, with the arrest of seventy-nine accused and recovery of 10.316 million rupees.

Similarly, the Gujranwala Electric Power Company has registered fifteen cases and held 6 persons, besides the recovery of 795,000 rupees.

The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company has also registered sixty-one cases of power theft, with the arrest of one accused and recovery of 1.020 million rupees, while the Islamabad Electric Supply Company registered 9 cases against the accused and recovered 1.190 million rupees.

Likewise, 556 cases of power stealing were registered by the Multan Electric Power Company, with the arrest of fifteen accused and recovery of 8.251 million rupees, while the Peshawar Electric Supply Company registered seventeen cases against electricity thieves and arrested 8 accused with the recovery of 2.225 million rupees.

Crackdown in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company registered 94 cases and held twenty-six accused along with a recovery of 937,000 rupees, while the Sukkur Electric Power Company registered thirty-eight cases of power theft with the arrest of thirty accused and recovery of 1.132 million rupees.

Moreover, the Quetta Electric Supply Company has registered twenty-four cases and arrested twenty-nine accused with the recovery of 665,000 rupees, and the Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company managed to recover 720,000 rupees.
