PESHAWAR: The countrywide crackdown against smugglers, hoarders and illegal exchange companies continued as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested six people, including an Afghan national, being accused in ‘Hawala Hundi’ and illegal foreign exchange from various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the FIA Spokesman, these actions were conducted over intelligence-based information in the Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, and Abbottabad districts of the province.
He informed that one of the accused, Zaheer Ullah, involved in Hawala Hundi, was arrested from Lakki Marwat while two accused, Abdullah Nazir and Abdul Malik, were taken into custody from Kohat District. Other two accused Jahanzeb and Badshah Noor, were arrested from Dera Ismail Khan, while another accused, Izzat Ullah, who was an Afghan national, was arrested from Abbottabad.
The official further said that the accused Jahanzeb and Badshah Noor were involved in illegal Hawala and foreign exchange business in the garb of cloth dealers in Dera Ismail Khan.
He added FIA has recovered a total amount of over Rs0.8 million (1090 Qatari Riyal, 500 Saudi Riyal, and 300 Dollars) including the receipts of Hawala Hundi and mobile phones from the accused. Cases have been registered against the accused, which would be followed by further investigation, he added.
Crackdown Against Hawala Hundi
It is worth noting that FIA, in collaboration with other government intelligence agencies have launched a massive crackdown against Hawala Hundi’ and illegal foreign exchange companies across the country. During the last couple of days, the officials managed to have several arrests in different parts of the country, resulting in an optimistic impact on the value of local currency against the dollar.
