ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal on Monday said that main objective of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is to promote the industrial sector in Pakistan.
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong on Monday called on the federal minister here in Islamabad. Matters related to mutual cooperation on energy, electricity schemes and ongoing projects under CPEC were discussed in the meeting.
The minister said that China’s cooperation to make Special Economic Zones a success is commendable and Pakistan will continue its efforts to complete the Zones.
He further added that on the directions of the Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the work on the electricity transmission lines in Gwadar is going on the fast track and will be completed in time.
“The supply of electricity to Gwadar will be started from Iran in December this year and from National Grid in March next year,” said the minister while assuring the Chinese envoy that the incumbent is committed to completing the CPEC projects without any delay and added that self-reliance in the energy sector will stabilize the economy.
Iqbal said Balochistan’s prosperity is connected with Gwadar’s development, and the incumbent government will complete all projects under CPEC in Gwadar.
The Chinese Ambassador appreciated the government’s efforts, especially the minister for planning and development.
