BEIJING: The Special Commemorative Twelfth Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is scheduled to be held on Tuesday in Beijing as the two nations celebrate a decade of achievements linked to the mega project.

Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, who will lead the delegation of Pakistani officials, stated before his departure for Beijing that the two sides would explore new avenues of cooperation and chart the future course for the mega project in emerging sectors during the meeting.

Pakistan-China Connectivity and CPEC

The CPEC was formalized on July 5, 2013, when the then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited China to ink a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.

CPEC is a corridor that connects the Gwadar port in Balochistan with Kashgar in the autonomous region of Xinjiang in Northwest China. It encompasses energy, industrial, and transport cooperation.

The upcoming meeting holds great importance as it not only represents a decade of fruitful collaboration between Pakistan and China but also sets the stage for the project’s next phase.

The meeting aims to forge stronger relations, explore new avenues and opportunities, and reinforce the foundation of CPEC, which is the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative.
