BEIJING: China has said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) provided a solution to Pakistan’s energy shortage, adding energy is one of the most heavily invested and most productive cooperation areas under CPEC.
CPEC and Energy Projects in Pakistan
Energy projects implemented under CPEC featuring advanced technologies and lower cost are a historic achievement for the country, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said during his regular briefing. He said that CPEC project also contributed to the local economy and people’s lives. The spokesperson said that the Karot hydropower plant under CPEC, and the second Phase of the Thar Block II power station project had also gone into commercial operation in the current year.
He said that the Karot hydropower plant provides clean and affordable power for Pakistan, and Thar Block II power station project generates electricity from the country’s coal, which assists save Pak’s valuable foreign exchange resources.
Capacity of CPEC energy projects
Official sources said that the total installed capacity of CPEC energy projects is 6,570 MW. These projects worked in coal, solar, wind, and hydropower sectors and generated 28,549.94 GWh and 25,772.48 GWh power in 2020-21 and in 2021-22. – APP
