President Dr. Arif Alvi has said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in promoting international trade routes and achieving prosperity through mutual cooperation as CPEC is the modern equivalent of the mediaeval tradition of international trade and connections via the Silk Route.
Addressing as a Chief Guest to the “Round Table Conference III: Kashgar to Gwadar and Beyond”, the President said that Silk Route has brought East and West closer together through trade. He stated that CPEC, as a landmark project of the Belt and Road Initiative (B&RI), will not only promote global linkages but will also enhance economic development in Pakistan, China and rest of the world. CPEC is also a high point in the two countries’ close friendly relations, he added.
Dr Alvi stressed upon the importance of transportation infrastructure being built in Pakistan as part of the CPEC project, and said that roads and highways are the gateway to social and economic progress and Pakistan’s economic policies will remain consistent and will not change with the change of a regime. President also advocated to create incentives for domestic and foreign investors in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) established as part of the CPEC project.
