BEIJING: As part of a new wave of store and restaurant closures in reaction to increasing COVID-19 cases in the Chinese capital, Beijing, performances at one of Beijing’s oldest and most recognised theatres have been stopped. of a shopping mall on 8th floor

The Jixiang Theater in downtown Wangfujing was erected in 1906 and was recently relocated to its current site of a shopping mall on 8th floor that also has stores and a fast food restaurant. It is well-known for its Peking opera and other traditional art performances.

Performances were scheduled to resume on November 27, although similar re-opening dates have regularly been pushed back.

On Saturday, China recorded 24,263 new cases, 515 of which were in Beijing. The vast majority had no symptoms.

Regardless, lockdowns and other rigorous control measures have been implemented around the country, with many Beijing residents receiving notifications instructing them not to leave their homes unless absolutely essential.

Covid-19 Affect Businesses

Restaurants, shopping malls, and stores considered unnecessary have been closed, and foot traffic in those that remain open has significantly decreased. A single case, or even close contact with an infected individual, might require the closure of an entire office building or apartment complex.

Access to Beijing’s prestigious Peking University was banned on Wednesday.Visitors to a vegetable market in the southeast of the city where a case was found were required to stay in quarantine at a hotel on their own expense.
