COVID-19 Claims 27 Lives in Kazakhstan in 2023

ASTANA: In Kazakhstan, 12,216 COVID-19 cases were recorded in 2023, including 11,520 COVID-19+ cases and 696 COVID-19 cases, the Sanitary and Epidemiological Control Department of the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan said on Tuesday.

It said that in total 353,027 tests for COVID-19 were done.

The ministry said that twenty-seven people died from COVID-19 in 2023. The largest number of deaths was recorded in Astana and Atyrau region.

The number of patients with the virus in hospitals reached 4,129.

COVID-19 vaccination

Last year, 18,843 people received the first dose of the vaccine against the lethal virus, and 20,395 people the second dose. Over 14,000 citizens received a second stage of vaccination with two doses. And the total number of revaccinated people since November 2021 was 162,150. 371,652 people received a second booster dose vaccination in 2023.

According to the results of the latest sequencing in the country, the main circulating strain is the Omicron variant XBB.1.16, the Ministry of Health added.
