ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad has ordered the release of all the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) members of the National Assembly arrested in the wake of the party’s September 8 political show in Islamabad, local media reported.
ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain heard case and granted post-arrest bail to the lawmakers who were taken into custody by the Islamabad police with their cases registered at the Sangjani police station. According to media reports, the bails were granted against surety bonds worth 30,000 rupees each.
Court Orders Releasing All PTI Legislators Arrested Following Islamabad Power Show
It may be recalled that the police, on September 8 and 9, arrested PTI MNAs in the wake of the party’s gathering in Islamabad. The leaders included Sheikh Waqas Akram, Sher Afzal Marwat, Chattha, Zain Qureshi, Yousaf Khan, Malik Aamir Dogar, and Naeem Ali Shah.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had held its power show in Islamabad with party workers and police clashing at Chungi No 26, on September 8. Heavy contingents of police personnel were deployed outside the parliament house while all entry and exit routes to the Red Zone were closed from D-Chowk, Serena, Nadra Chowk, and Marriott, except for Margalla Road.
Multiple PTI legislators had been arrested from the Parliament House. Police had registered cases against several leaders of the PTI under newly-enacted Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Bill, 2024, at Sangjani and Noon Village police stations.
