Councilor Afzal Kayani Elected Unopposed as Mayor of Hounslow District of London

LONDON: Councilor Afzal Kayani, originally from Rawalpindi, Pakistan, has been elected unopposed as the mayor of Hounslow, the largest suburban district of West London.

In a historic move, Kayani won the honor of being elected without any opposition among the 62 members of the House. His election marks the first time this has occurred in Hounslow. The opposition Conservative Party also did not field a candidate against him.

The term of former Mayor Raghwinder Sidhu of the London Borough of Hounslow had come to an end, leading to the election of the new mayor. In a unanimous decision, all 62 councilors of Hounslow elected Councilor Afzal Kayani as the new mayor.

Councilor Afzal Kayani hails from Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and is a graduate of H-9 College in Islamabad. He has previously served in the British Civil Service for a significant period and currently holds the position of chairman at a local Islamic school.

Pakistanis Who Served as Mayors of Hounslow

It is pertinent to mention here that Councilor Nisar Malik and Councilor Samia Chaudhry, both of Pakistani origin, have previously held the position of mayor in Hounslow.

The oath-taking ceremony of the new mayor witnessed a large gathering of elders, councilors, and relatives of Afzal Kayani. They expressed confidence that the Hounslow community would greatly benefit from his vast experience and expertise if he assumed the position of mayor.
