MULTAN: The district administration set a target to cultivate cotton on more than 1.2 million acres of land in the Multan division.
Commissioner Multan Aamir Khattak disclosed it during a meeting on Tuesday.
The cultivation of cotton would help generate 2.2 million bales.
The commissioner said that the field staff should remain active for the guidance and awareness of the farmers.
He also directed officials to expedite the wheat purchase drive.
Wheat in Multan
In total, a target of 651,000 metric tonnes of wheat has been fixed for the Multan division, and the commissioner has directed strict action against the smugglers of the staple food.
Shahid Khokhar, Deputy Director of Food, also briefed about the wheat purchase drive in the area.
He said that the department conducted about 294 raids to foil smuggling operations of the wheat.
The department seized 8678 metric tonnes of the commodity and shifted it to wheat purchase centres.
He said 15 FIRs were registered against the wheat smugglers in the Multan division.
