ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association reported a 36 per cent decrease in cotton arrivals by February 1, primarily due to recent severe floods that affected several cotton-growing regions in the country.
Sindh recorded a 47 percent drop in arrivals to 1.87 million bales, while Punjab reported a 26 percent decrease to 2.89 million bales.
Despite the decline in cotton arrivals, textile companies purchased 4.17 million bales and exports bought 4,500 bales.
Cotton supply shortage puts in risk textile industry
This shortage in cotton supply has risked the cotton and textile industry in the country and may affect the value-added textile products.
The textile industry may require to import of around 10 to 12 million bales to avoid the deficit.
