ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial, during a hearing on Tuesday, remarked that the menace of corruption in the country couldn’t be removed merely through the court decisions but the system needed to be strengthened to eradicate the menace.
The Chief Justice gave these remarks during the hearing of a petition filed by PTI Chairman Imran Khan against the amendments in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Ordinance.

The Chief Justice remarked that no efforts had been ever made in the country to remove the weaknesses that exist in the system.
Parliament’s role in eradicating corruption
He said that it was the Parliament’s responsibility to make legislation to improve the system and ensure the implementation of the laws.

Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that the Supreme Court had previously decided the Reko Diq and Pakistan Steel Mills cases with good intentions. He said that the government could not fix corruption in the projects due to loopholes in the system.
