ISLAMABAD: In August, Indian troops escalated their campaign of state terrorism in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), resulting in the martyrdom of seven Kashmiris.

According to the Kashmir Media Service, these individuals were killed in various staged encounters, and a woman was subjected to disgraceful treatment by Indian police.

During the same period, Indian forces, including the army, police, and paramilitary units, conducted 186 cordon and search operations. These raids led to the arrest of 96 civilians, predominantly political activists, youth, and students.

Many were detained under harsh laws such as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Public Safety Act (PSA). Additionally, the properties of five Kashmiris were seized, and eight Kashmiri Muslim employees were suspended from their government positions under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime.

Approximately 5,000 Kashmiris, including prominent figures like APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt and Muhammad Yasin Malik, among others, have been victims of political persecution. These individuals, including human rights defenders and journalists, face imprisonment in jails across India and IIOJK on what are widely regarded as fabricated charges.

The data underscores the relentless repression faced by the people of IIOJK, highlighting a pattern of systematic abuse and political targeting by Indian authorities. This ongoing situation reflects the broader crisis in the region, marked by severe human rights violations and a severe crackdown on dissent.
