Hijab-wearing Women Join Iran Protests

JEDDAH: Hundreds of thousands of women took to the streets in Zahedan, the provincial capital of Sistan Baluchistan, to join Iran protests to condemn the killing of Mahsa Amini in mid-September.

Women of Sistan joined the nationwide protests provoked by Mahsa Amini’s death in Iran.- Whether with a scarf or without it, onwards to the revolution, women dressed in body-covering chador garments chanted in videos posted on social media.

Amini, a 22-year-old, died following her arrest by Tehran police for an alleged breach of the country’s dress code, and since women-led protests have swept Iran. According to Iran Human Rights, Irani armed forces have killed at least 448 protesters in Sistan-Baluchistan on Iran’s southeastern border with Pakistan and Afghanistan.

IHR director Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam said that after Friday prayers, the protests by women in the Zahedan area which has seen men take to the streets. He said that the ongoing protests are the beginning of a revolution of nobility in Iran.

Plight of Baluchi women

Amiry-Moghaddam said that Baluchi women are among the most ill-treated in Iran, and their protests were the most organized since demonstrations broke out across the country.

Women of Iran protest, who have been treated as third-class citizens for more than four decades, are empowered through these protests to come out to the streets and demand their fundamental human rights.

Men and Women took to the streets on Friday, chanting against the Irani government that we don’t want a child-killing government. Irani forces opened fire with bird shots and used tear gas on the protester. IHR published videos on social media.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly of Canada said that Canada imposed sanctions against the Iran government over its denial of the fundamental rights for women and girls and cracking down on peaceful protests.
