NEW DELHI: As the world observes the World Day of Social Justice, attention turns to India, where minority communities face mounting discrimination under the Modi government.

Highlighted in a report by the Kashmir Media Service, Muslims, Christians, Dalits, and Sikhs express profound fear and insecurity due to systemic oppression and discriminatory policies. Human Rights Watch (HRW) criticizes laws like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) for perpetuating marginalization, creating a two-tier system of citizenship that undermines equal rights.

Concerns Mount Over Minority Discrimination in India on World Day of Social Justice

Global rights watchdogs, including Amnesty International and the United Nations Human Rights Council, call for an end to discriminatory policies and practices targeting minorities. The UNHRC, through Resolution 49/17, expresses concern about alleged discriminatory laws, hate crimes, and violence against minorities in India.

The plight of minorities in India reflects historical legacies and complex social dynamics. Hindutva leaders incite violence against minorities, particularly Muslims, fostering an atmosphere of fear. With attacks on minorities rising, questions arise about India’s commitment to democracy and secularism.

The international community is urged to intervene and address systematic human rights violations in India. The struggle for social justice among India’s minorities serves as a litmus test for global dedication to fairness and equality.
