KARACHI: A 14-member high-profile committee, formed by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is set to meet on Thursday to address the crucial matter of Pakistan’s participation in World Cup, scheduled to be held in neighbouring India.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will chair the significant meeting, and it will play a pivotal role in determining whether the Pakistan Cricket Team should travel to India for the high-stakes tournament. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf will join the committee members.

The 14-member committee comprises prominent figures such as Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Ehsan-ur-Rehman, Minister of Inter-Provincial Coordination, chiefs of the national security institutions, and the foreign secretary.

Pakistan’s Participation in Cricket World Cup

The high-powered panel will provide its recommendations to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who, as the patron-in-chief, will make the final decision regarding Pakistan’s participation in the mega cricket event, based on the committee’s inputs.

The situation has been further complicated by India’s refusal to cross the border and participate in the Asia Cup, resulting in Pakistan being denied the opportunity to host all matches. Consequently, Pakistan is now set to host only four matches, while the rest of the Asia Cup matches will be played in Sri Lanka.

Prime Minister Sharif constituted the 14-member high-profile committee on July 14, following the PCB’s request for the Prime Minister’s advice on the matter of the team’s travel to India.
