COLOMBO: In an impressive display of dominance, Pakistan declared their first innings at a formidable 576 runs, taking a massive 410-run lead on day four of the second and final Test of the two-match series in Colombo.

The breathtaking innings saw Salman Ali Agha smashing an unbeaten 132 off just 154 balls, while Mohammad Rizwan showcased his prowess with an unbeaten half-century.

As the game resumed on the fourth day, the Pakistani batsmen continued their brilliant form, putting the hosts under immense pressure. Nishan Madushka and Dimuth Karunaratne walked to the crease to begin Sri Lanka’s second innings.

The momentum for Pakistan had been building since day three when Abdullah Shafique’s maiden double hundred and Salman Ali Agha’s second century left Sri Lanka struggling to find an answer. The stunning display of batting prowess unfolded at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo, giving Pakistan a commanding position in the match.

By the end of day three, Pakistan had posted an imposing total of 563 for five in 132 overs, securing a commanding lead of 397 runs over the hosts. The first innings had started with Pakistan resuming their overnight score of 178 for two. However, they faced an early setback with the departure of their captain, Babar Azam, who added 11 runs to his overnight score before being dismissed.

Saud Shakeel, the double centurion from the first Test match, then joined forces with Abdullah Shafique, and the duo added a vital 109 runs for the fourth wicket. Saud Shakeel’s consistency was noteworthy, making him the only batter in the world to score six half-centuries in seven Test matches, accompanied by two centuries.

During Saud’s innings, tragedy struck as wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed suffered a blow to the head from Asitha Fernando’s bouncer. Consequently, he had to leave the field, and Mohammad Rizwan was substituted in as a concussion replacement.

Abdullah Shafique continued to be the driving force behind Pakistan’s dominant performance, amassing an impressive 201 off 326 balls, which included 19 fours and four sixes. However, after his departure, the stage was set for Salman Ali Agha and Mohammad Rizwan to shine. The pair showcased exceptional batting skills, stitching an unbroken partnership of 95 runs for the sixth wicket.

Salman Ali Agha’s unbeaten knock of 132 runs came off just 148 balls and included 15 boundaries and one six. Meanwhile, Mohammad Rizwan displayed his composure and ended the innings undefeated on 37 off 61 balls, featuring one four and a six.

With such an extraordinary lead in their first innings, Pakistan’s declaration put them in a dominant position in the Test match. As the second innings of the hosts began, Sri Lanka faced a herculean task to overcome the massive deficit set by the visitors. Cricket fans around the world eagerly awaited the outcome of the thrilling encounter, wondering if Sri Lanka could stage an incredible comeback or if Pakistan would continue their triumphant run.
