Supporters and activists waved Palestinian flags and wore T-shirts saying “Free Palestine” as they warmly welcomed the team ahead of its game against Colombia’s Millonarios in South America’s Libertadores cup on May 14.
Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro, who has been outspoken in support of the people of Palestine, called for the International Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu this week.
The team arrived Colombia’s El Dorado International Airport as Gaza Health Ministry said that more than 35,034 people have been killed and over 78,755 wounded in Israeli brutal strikes on Gaza since Oct. 7.
Meanwhile, the UN said that over 300,000 Palestinian people have fled Rafah as Israel expands its operation in the area. Israel also sends forces back into northern Gaza, with witnesses reporting sighting tanks in the Jabalia refugee camp, Sabra and Zeitoun neighbourhoods.
In another major development, Egypt said it was going to formally join the lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice, which blames Israel of violating its obligations under the Genocide Convention in Gaza.
