BOGOTA: Colombian President Gustavo Petro criticized Israel for violating the UN Security Council’s ceasefire resolution in Gaza.
Sharing footage of Israel’s recent attack on a refugee camp in Gaza on his X, social media platform, account, Petro stated, “It has started again. Following the strong reaction to Saturday’s attacks, the killing of children and the violation of the UNSC ceasefire resolution continue. The vast majority of humanity desires peace.”
On March 25, the UN Security Council passed a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Israel has been conducting a deadly military offensive in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023 that left more than 33,700 Palestinians, mostly women and children, dead and 76,400 others injured, alongside widespread destruction and shortages of necessities.
Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to cease genocidal acts and ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza.
