Co-founder A&M Records, Jerry Moss Dies at 88

LOS ANGELES: Jerry Moss, a legend and co-founder of A&M Records has died aged 88, according to US media on Thursday.

According to a statement released by his family Jerry passed away at his Bel-Air residence in California due to natural causes.

He co-founded A&M Records, along with trumpet player Herb Alpert in 1962.  For more than 25 years, Alpert and Moss ruled the music industry with blockbuster albums.

Moss last appeared in public in Los Angeles in January this year when he was honored with a tribute concert at the Mark Taper Forum.

He was born in New York City in 1935.  After graduating with a degree in English he served in the United States Army for some time.

Jerry Moss started his music career by promoting “16 Candles”, a 1958 hit for the Crests on Coed Records. He moved to California, 1960 where he co-founded A&M Records.

For a few years, Alpert and Moss ran Almo Records Moss after they sold A&M Records to PolyGram in 1994.

In 2006 Moss and Alpert were included into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the category of non-performers.

Moss and his wife Tina donated $25,000,000 to The Music Center in Los Angeles in 2020 making largest single contribution ever made to The Music Center.
