GENEVA: At least 183 people have been killed since July in clashes in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, the United Nations (UN) said Tuesday as it appealed for the violence, killings, and rights abuses to end.

Marta Hurtado, Human Rights Office spokeswoman told journalists in Geneva that the UN was very concerned by the deteriorating human rights situation in some parts of Ethiopia, AFP reported.

Marta said that in the Amhara region, following the clashes between the Ethiopian army and the regional Fano militia, and the declaration of a state of emergency on 4 August, the situation worsened significantly.
