ISLAMABAD: Civil society members in the Indian illegally-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have called upon India and Pakistan to engage in dialogue and resolve the Kashmir dispute, emphasizing that such a resolution is vital for peace, political stability, and economic prosperity in the South Asian region.
As reported by the Kashmir Media Service, during a meeting in Srinagar, prominent individuals from the civil society, including Muhammad Shafi, Muhammad Ali, Showket Ahmed, Muhammad Asim, Muntzir Nabi, Umar Bazaz, and Shaheen Nabi, stressed that the Kashmir issue should be addressed promptly, as its resolution could foster improved relations between India and Pakistan.
They argued that a positive relationship between the two countries would create a peaceful environment and contribute to poverty alleviation in both nations.
These civil society members contended that resolving the Kashmir dispute is not only in the best interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir but also holds potential benefits for the entire South Asian region.
They highlighted that the financial resources currently spent on acquiring weapons and arms could be redirected towards the development and welfare of the people.
Furthermore, the meeting denounced the illegal process of altering Kashmir’s territorial status, which goes against UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people, and observed that such actions have only exacerbated the suffering of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
In addition, they urged parents to withdraw their children from government and private schools where students are compelled to participate in Hindutva culture programs, songs, and activities inconsistent with Islamic principles. —APP
