ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ruled that former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s bail plea in the cipher case would be held in an open court. However, discussions involving “sensitive information” will be held in-camera.

The IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq announced its reserved decision on the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) request for conducting an in-camera hearing on the bail plea of the PTI Chief Imran Khan in the cipher case. The Court subsequently disposed of the FIA’s application.

The cipher case resolves to a diplomatic cable that was reported to have gone missing from the ex-premier’s possession. The PTI alleges that it contained a threat from the United States to oust the party chairman from office.

Imran Khan’s Bail Plea In-Camera for Sensitive Matters

The court decision also mentioned that Imran Khan’s bail plea be conducted in-camera for any sensitive documents requiring in-camera proceedings. The issue would be discussed with the agreement of the lawyers involved.

The FIA prosecutor had requested that the proceedings be held in-camera and the public be excluded from the courtroom. The court noted that the public was already not attending the trial since it was being conducted within a jail setting.
