CHENNAI: A group of people believed to be right-wing Hindu extremists attacked a Christian family during their home prayer session in Chennimalai, Tamil Nadu, a South Indian state. An investigation has been launched by the police into the attack.
The victims, identified as Samuel (34), his wife Jennifer, and their three-year-old son, reside in Kathakkudi Kadu, a village near Herod. During their prayer session, Samuel’s parents Arjunan and Rathinam and his younger sister Beulah were also present when the attackers forcibly entered their home and assaulted them.

In an attempt to document the incident, the victims tried to record the attack on their mobile phones, but the attackers confiscated and destroyed their devices.
The police report stated, “More than 30 people entered the family home, injuring all those present. It is believed that villagers, including neighbors, had complained to Samuel about loud singing and praying.”
Chennimalai Station police inspector M. K. Sarvanan reported that law enforcement swiftly arrived at the scene, but the assailants had already fled.
The victims were taken to the government hospital in Perundurai for medical treatment. Inspector Sarvanan emphasized that the perpetrators will be identified and brought to justice.
Local sources suggested that the motive for the attack was the belief among some villagers that Samuel’s family was involved in religious propaganda. The Christian family has denied any involvement in such activities.
