CHONGQING: China: In southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality, known for its snowless urban terrain, an unexpected passion for winter sports has blossomed, turning the city into a thriving center for ice and snow tourism.

Despite the absence of snowfall in urban areas, residents, including those from the snowy northeast of China, have eagerly embraced activities like skiing.

Ma Fuqiang, a ski instructor at Jinfo Mountain ski resort and a native of Heilongjiang province in the northeast, attested to the palpable enthusiasm for snow and skiing among Chongqing’s residents. He noted that most visitors to the ski resort are beginners who are thrilled by the sight of snow, resulting in a high demand for ski instructors.

The Jinfo Mountain ski resort boasts over 140 ski instructors, primarily from northeastern China, who are employed from mid-November to early March. Despite the lack of natural snow, the fervor for winter sports in Chongqing continues to grow, attracting tourists and enthusiasts alike to experience the thrill of skiing in this unlikely locale.
