CHITRAL: The picturesque district of Upper Chitral, nestled in the heart of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, recently bore the brunt of a devastating natural disaster that has left its once serene landscape in disarray.

The Yarkhon River, swollen to alarming levels due to the rapid melting of glaciers and snow, unleashed a high flooding event that wreaked havoc on the region. Tragically, at least 18 houses were reduced to ruins, and vast stretches of standing crops, spread across hundreds of acres, met with destruction.

The magnitude of this disaster has forced hundreds of residents to abandon their homes in low-lying areas, compelled to leave behind their cherished belongings in search of safer grounds, according to local media.

Chitral residents call for help

The cry for immediate aid and support in the flood-hit areas reverberates through the valleys as the affected locals implore the district administration and the provincial government to extend a helping hand during this dire hour. The urgency of the situation demands the prompt provision of emergency assistance, including tents and food supplies, to those who are currently stranded and deeply impacted by the calamity.

At the epicentre of this humanitarian crisis lies the Government Primary School Pewar, now submerged under the relentless waters alongside 18 other houses. In the face of adversity, the brave occupants have valiantly struggled to safeguard their lives amid the harrowing circumstances.
