BEIJING: China President Xi Jinping Special Representative Ding Xuexiang will visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to attend the World Climate Action Summit from November 30 to December 2, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said on Friday.
Mao Ning said during her regular briefing that Ding Xuexiang is traveling to UAE to represent President Xi Jinping, who was invited by the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UAE, as the chair of the UN COP28, will host the World Climate Action Summit in Dubai, providing political guidance for COP28, said Mao Ning.
The Summit marks a significant event as it is the first-ever global stocktake since the implementation of the Paris Agreement, serving as a key milestone for global climate governance.
President Xi Jinping received an invitation from the UAE President to attend the Summit. In response to the invitation and as part of China’s commitment to addressing climate change and strengthening traditional ties with the UAE, Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang will participate as President Xi Jinping’s Special Representative.
Special Representative Ding Xuexiang is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council.
The spokesperson emphasized China’s intention to collaborate with various parties to support the principles and objectives of the UNFCCC system, notably the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and the theme of “Unite, Act, Deliver.” The goal is to earnestly address challenges faced by developing countries and advance the full and effective implementation of the Paris Agreement.
During the Summit, the Group of 77 (G77) will also convene the G77+China Summit, extending invitations to leaders of developing countries to attend, the spokesperson added.
