BEIJING: The Chinese Defence Ministry reported on Thursday that the Chinese and Indian militaries had their 20th round of corps commander-level talks and decided to keep the momentum of communication and engagement going through military and diplomatic channels.

During the meeting conducted at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Indian side on October 9 and 10, both sides engaged in a positive and comprehensive discussion regarding resolving remaining issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Western Sector.

They aimed to find a mutually acceptable solution as soon as possible. Following the leadership’s guidance, the two parties exchanged candid, open, and forward-looking perspectives.

They agreed to sustain the momentum of communication and dialogue through military and diplomatic channels, intending to resolve the remaining issues promptly. In the interim, they committed to maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas.

Preceding this meeting, the two countries had their 19th round of Corps Commander Level Meeting at the same meeting point on August 13-14, which was focused on addressing the border dispute.

Furthermore, the 18th round of the China-India Corps Commander Level meeting took place at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Chinese side on April 23 of this year.

It is worth noting that the disputed border between China and India spans nearly 3,500 kilometers (2,175 miles) along the frontier, known as the Line of Actual Control (LAC). This border runs from Ladakh in the north to the Indian state of Sikkim in the northeast.

Both nations have attempted to resolve this border dispute since the early 1990s but have yet to achieve a successful resolution. —APP
