BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang met with Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry in Beijing on Sunday and discussed matters of mutual interest and regional issues.
During the meeting, Qin said that China and Sri Lanka have respected and supported each other since forming diplomatic relations, setting an example of friendly exchanges and win-win cooperation between nations of different sizes.
He urged the two sides to fully implement the consensus reached by the leadership of both countries, increase high-level and people-to-people exchanges, and further promote the joint construction of a high-quality Belt and Road, Xinhua reported.
Qin said that China would continue to help Sri Lanka’s fiscal and social development and improve people’s living standards to the best of its capacity.
Lauding China as a great friend and important collaborator in development, Sabry said Sri Lanka valued the selfless help the Chinese government and people provided to its independence and financial development.
Sri Lanka Lauds Chinese Support
He thanked China for its valuable assistance to Sri Lanka in handling the debt problem and overcoming temporary issues.
Sabry added that Sri Lanka would continue to firmly support the one-China policy, work in close coordination with China on multilateral occasions, ensure the construction of the Belt and Road, and promote the further development of bilateral relations.
The two sides also discussed international and regional matters of common concern. Qin said that during complex and volatile circumstances, China would work with other nations to safeguard regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity and build a community with a shared future for humanity.
