PESHAWAR: Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day was celebrated with great national enthusiasm and lively festivities at a Chinese cultural centre in Peshawar, featuring patriotic songs, tributes to national sacrifices, and calls for unity and progress.

Political leaders, diplomats, and community representatives attended the event, highlighting the country’s history, achievements, and enduring commitment to national development.

Addressing the gathering, Muzammil Aslam, Advisor to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government on Finance, remarked that August 14 is not merely a historic date, but a powerful symbol of national consciousness, unity, and sacrifice.

He reminded attendees that Pakistan’s independence was secured through the supreme sacrifices and relentless struggle of millions.

He paid special tribute to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, recognising their unmatched sacrifices for the country’s survival and progress—from the freedom movement to the ongoing fight against terrorism.

Referring to recent developments, he noted that Pakistan had dealt a historic defeat to India, a proud moment for the nation and its armed forces.

He also praised China Window, calling it a prominent and effective platform for promoting Pakistan–China friendship.

Speaking at the event, Iranian Consul General Ali Banafsha Khwa extended his heartfelt congratulations to the people of Pakistan on their Independence Day.

He remarked that Pakistan–Iran relations have entered a new chapter, with both countries playing significant roles in supporting each other’s economic growth and development.

A minority Member of Parliament Baba Ji Gurpal Singh, highlighted the invaluable contributions of minority communities to Pakistan’s independence.

He stated that, for the Sikh community, Pakistan holds a special place as the birthplace of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh faith.

He expressed deep gratitude to Pakistan for granting minorities not only freedom but also a strong sense of identity. Paying tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces, he praised their recent actions, stating that Pakistan had delivered a historic defeat to India—one that will be remembered for generations.

Former World Squash Champion Qamar Zaman highlighted Pakistan’s global achievements in sports.

He urged the youth to work hard in both education and sports, and never to lose hope. Independence Day, he said, calls upon all citizens to work together to make Pakistan one of the greatest nations in the world.

Bishop Ernest Jacob and other speakers emphasised that Pakistan was achieved after immense sacrifices, and it is now the responsibility of the younger generation to acknowledge this legacy and work for the country’s stability and progress.

The ceremony concluded with a strong reaffirmation of commitment to Pakistan’s development, stability, and the strengthening of Pakistan–China friendship.
