MELBOURNE: Chinse Ambassador to Australia Xiao Qian said Wednesday that China and Australia should not only maintain the steady and positive momentum of bilateral ties but also go beyond stabilization to promote continuous development and improvement, as the relations are at an important moment for a new start.
Xiao made the remarks at the Asia Briefing LIVE 2023 arranged by Asia Society Australia in Melbourne, Xinhua reported.
China-Australia Ties Emphasized
He said that last year was a year of stability for China-Australia ties. This year is a year of exchanges, dialogue, and improvement for both countries, said the envoy, noting that China and Australia have seen exchanges and visits in different fields and at various levels and made positive progress in bilateral relations in 2023.
Xiao said that China regards Australia as a friend. There is no reason for Australia to see Beijing as a threat.
