BEIJING: Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng says it is nearing regulatory approval for its long-awaited flying cars, with plans to begin mass production and deliveries as early as next year.
The company said it is aiming to secure final type certification from aviation authorities within the year, a key step that would allow commercial sales to begin.
“We are aiming for final type certificate approval this year,” a company official said, adding that large-scale production and customer deliveries could follow soon after.

Xpeng has already received more than 7,000 orders for its flying vehicles, with the majority coming from China, though the company is also expanding its footprint internationally. It currently operates in around 60 markets worldwide.
Beyond flying cars, Xpeng is also advancing autonomous mobility solutions. The company plans to begin robo-taxi testing in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou later this year, with potential expansion to global markets following initial trials.
Xpeng is also deepening its collaboration with Volkswagen, with the two companies recently beginning mass production of a jointly developed electric vehicle.

As part of its broader strategy, the company is integrating artificial intelligence into its vehicles, with AI-powered agents expected to be introduced in Volkswagen cars starting in the third quarter of this year.
Industry analysts say these developments highlight the rapid evolution of the automotive sector, as companies race to combine electric mobility, automation, and AI-driven features—potentially transforming how people commute in the near future.
