BEIJING: The annual Two Sessions in China, featuring the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), have once again captured global attention.
Journalists from various countries flock to cover this highly anticipated event, eager to cover the latest developments of discussions shaping China’s political landscape.
Eka Gulua, the founder and CEO of Mcm Mtavari Media from Georgia, shared her perspective on the National People’s Congress. NPC has around 3,000 deputies, including approximately 600 representing workers and farmers, and around 500 being technical professionals, China Economic Net (CEN) reported. Gulua emphasized that this reflects a distribution of power among the people, making the Two Sessions an important platform for Chinese citizens to participate in decision-making processes.
Gulua also noted the provision of Chinese laws and the constitution in the Georgian language, which she found helpful in understanding China’s legislative framework. She stressed the importance of global participation in China’s affairs, stating that China’s openness to other nations signifies mutual benefits and shared interests.
Muhammad Asghar, a Pakistani journalist with seven years of experience covering the Two Sessions, underscored its significance within China’s political system. He highlighted China’s pivotal role in global affairs and its close ties with countries like Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of understanding China’s policies, particularly regarding initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative.
Joao Pina from TCV Media in Cape Verde expressed optimism about enhancing cooperation between China and Africa, citing China’s longstanding position as Africa’s largest trading partner. Pina, on his first visit to China, acknowledged a shift in his perception after witnessing the democratic processes of the Two Sessions firsthand. He pledged to convey the significance of these sessions as a democratic political process in his reporting.
