BEIJING: China’s foreign minister, Wang Yi, will address questions from the media on Thursday during the country’s largest annual political gathering in Beijing.

As a veteran diplomat with extensive experience in foreign policy, Wang Yi is expected to engage with Chinese and foreign journalists on various topics, including significant geopolitical issues.

The decision for Wang Yi’s media interaction comes after China broke a longstanding tradition by announcing that Premier Li Qiang would not hold a Press conference at the end of the National People’s Congress meeting earlier this week. The ongoing “Two Sessions” provide insights into the Communist Party-led government’s strategy for the upcoming year.

Amid global tensions, this year’s gathering holds particular significance, with attention focused on Chinese leaders’ perspectives on current geopolitical conditions. Geopolitical flashpoints such as tensions across the Taiwan and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, now entering its third year, are expected to be topics of interest.

Wang Yi’s role gains significance following the abrupt removal of former foreign minister Qin Gang last year, who has since remained out of the public eye. As China navigates complex international dynamics, Wang Yi’s engagement with the media offers insights into the country’s foreign policy priorities and approach to global affairs.
