China’s Envoy to US Admits China-US Ties Still Face Challenges

BEIJING: China’s envoy to the United States (US), Xie Feng has said the most significant thing is to find the right way for Beijing and Washington to get along.

Xie Feng expressed the remarks during a speech for the China-U.S. Forum in Hong Kong, “Sino-U.S. relations are still facing severe challenges, and there is still a long way to go to stabilize and improve ties. The most significant thing is to find the right way for Washington and Beijing to get along in the new era,”.

According to media reports, the remarks come as US President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, are preparing for their first summit meeting on Nov. 15. Earlier, President Biden met with Chinese top diplomat Wang Yi at the White House on October 27.

China-US ties

During the talks, President Biden said, “Both sides need to maintain open lines of communication,” saying, “We should work together to address global issues.”

President Biden will visit San Francisco, starting November 14, in connection with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders’ summit to be held in the city.

Earlier a US official said that teams for Biden and Xi have an agreement in principle for them to hold a meeting in San Francisco.

It amplified on remarks by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at her daily news briefing, where she stated US and Chinese Presidents are aiming to have a “constructive talk” on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in San Francisco.
